VUS How to Apply

If you wish to apply as a Visiting Undergraduate Student (VUS), please submit an inquiry. It can take up to four weeks to receive application materials, so we suggest that you visit our online course catalog in the meantime, to familiarize yourself with Harvard's curriculum. We request that you wait until you receive the application before submitting any materials. However, it may be helpful to know that the Committee will expect a tentative plan of study, an essay concerning your reasons for a study at Harvard, two recommendations from faculty members (on forms that are a part of the application), your high school transcript, and your college transcript. In addition, you will need the approval of your current academic dean or adviser to undertake a program of study here, and your college or university ordinarily must agree to give you transfer credit for the work once it has been successfully completed. The results of the SAT I: Reasoning Test or ACT are strongly recommended of all applicants, and the TOEFL is required of all international students whose native language is not English. If you have further questions, please e-mail us or call (617) 495-9707.

By submitting an application for VUS admission, you understand that:

The academic calendar at Harvard College includes a fall and spring term. The fall term runs from mid-September to late January and the spring term from early February to late May. Visiting Undergraduates should keep in mind that they will need to be here for registration and exams on a calendar that may be different from their own. Visiting Students are considered twice a year for fall or spring term admission. If you wish to apply for the fall term or for the academic year, you should submit your application by the deadline of May 15. If you wish to apply for the spring term, the deadline is October 15. All admissions materials should be postmarked by these dates.
